MAXIMUM MOGADISHU!

On Sunday, October 30th, our specially trained controllers will open up Somalia\'s only international airport for full five hours! We invite you to experience VATSIM in a whole new way! Mogadishu International is the only major airport in Somalia and is frequently closed due to the ongoing conflict in this region. This day will be your chance to experience this region and explore eastern Africa. Our controllers will be setting up a portable radar station and will feature Radar Approaches into Mogadishu International\'s single runway. The final Director controller will guide you to the runway. All pilots and airlines are invited to fly in, but we highly recommend equipment appropriate to this airspace. RNAV is a must as there are no radio navigation aids available. ATC will include approach and director plus center. We invite you to fly and enjoy Mogadishu! If you have any questions or need help with a route, our controllers will be on hand to help you in.

Akorát jsem si psal s pořadateli a mělo by být obsazeno Seychelles International Airport FSIA což je 740nm od HCMM, případně je ještě možnost letět z Keni z Nairobi (560nm) nebo Mombasy (500nm). Z LKPR je to odhadem asi 3500nm.

747-400 by neměl být problém, ale nemají tam moc místa na parkování a pozor aby si neuvíznul v písku.

Hello Lukas,

when Mogadishu (HCMM) was fully operative in the mid 80\'s, before the numerous civil wars, there were regular flights with African and European commercial flights operating 747-200s, DC-10s, 707s and DC-8s.
Today the airport original runway 05/23 (9.900ft) has not changed and can be used for the entire lenght. The runway can be used for sure by heavy jetliners like the 744 even if today in the real world mthere are no 747-400 flying to/from Mogadishu, but, just consider these facts:

There are no taxiways, just one short taxiway to exit/enter the runway from the main terminal apron/parkings, this means you will need to do backtracks when landing/departing 06 and or 23

There are no active NAVAIDS at all, no ILS, no VOR, no NDB, this is why the event will be based on PAR approaches only

Today, in the real world, the largest aircraft (military) operating at HCMM are IL-76s and C-5 Galaxy, but, this is only because the commercial flights are actually made by minor African operators flying small medium jets like DC-9s, MD-80s, 737s and turboprops (mainly IL-18s) for regional flights or for destinations like Kenya and Djibouti.

Considering all this I can confirm you that a 744 is suitable to land/depart at HCMM (with the correct payload and fuel balance) and the only requirement for this event is that your pilots will be able to do PAR approaches because this will be the only IFR approach procedure available and the main goal of the event.

Hmmm, PAR jsem posledně na dálnici nějak nerozběhal.

Nešlo by domluvit, že by každých 30 metrů po obou stranách RWY rozmístili louče a já přistál vizuálně?

No, vidím ještě více bledě než včera ;)

No, jde o to, jakej PAR budou lítat, jeslti ten ke kterému je potřeba mít ten spešl soft, nebo ten \"náš\", ke kterýmu stačí SB/FSInn... Jelikož nepíšou o nutnosti cokoliv instalovat, tak bych tipoval ten druhej (a nebo SRA a nevědi, že to je něco jiného)...

No, chtělo by to kolem 14. hodiny odstartovat, aby byl přílet kolem té deváté večer. I když mají otevřeno až do 23:00 CET. Včera jsem zkoušel scenery, RWY je osvětlená, tak snad se nějak přistane.

Skutečně velmi zběžně projedu a hned mi do levého oka padlo, že při odletu chybí landing lights a neběží hodiny... ;-)
